Job Description and Qualification:


1. Be our Legal Eagle

  • Providing clear and business driven legal advisory on all legal aspect of company operation, product and services and strategic partnership
  • Identifying potential areas of legal vulnerability and risk, developing and implementing corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and providing general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future
  • Providing legal support to other departments
  • Assisting and working alongside the Global Legal Counsel in collaboratively managing all legal matters and affairs
  • Drafting and reviewing legal documents with our customers, business parties and third parties
  • Ensuring the fulfilment of all legal compliance for company, products and services
  • Conduct periodic internal reviews or audits to ensure the fulfillment of all legal compliances and obligations
  • Managing external notaries and external legal service providers
  • Responsible for advising the resolutions of disputes, litigation and regulatory matters including intellectual property, data and employment issues affecting the business

2. Be able to translate between the law and The company

  • Be able to advocate for what’s right internally in the company’s way
  • Work to outcomes even though so much is outside your control
  • Be able to engage in lively discussion internally and help the internal team understand why things need to be done a certain way
  • Communicate our way - e.g. build a structured relationship map
  • Be able to advocate for what’s right externally in a legal way

3. Recruit another A player junior legal counsel within 12 months

  • Source 5 A players that can pass CEO’s screen
  • Hire until your role becomes redundant, i.e. if you disappear, they can continue operating at the same quality and speed
  • Build framework for hiring: scorecards, interview questions

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • Bachelor in Law
  • Proficiency in Tagalog and English
  • 1-5 years’ experience as a corporate lawyer at a reputable private practice firm and/or in house legal practitioner
  • Strong and in-depth theoretical knowledge of Philippines law, such as civil law, company law, intellectual property (having in depth knowledge of finance and/or technology is essential)
  • Excellent legal drafting and writing skills (English language)
  • Excellent research (local and foreign laws and regulations), verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and lobbying skills to work well within the legal team and internal/ external stakeholder
  • You’re legally and commercially sound with ability to challenge results, provide solution and form justifiable assumptions for the business
  • You’re willing to work harder than most and humble enough to learn from people much younger than you
  • You thrive on autonomy and have proven you can push towards a goal by yourself
