Job Description

Our client is currently searching for a talented and driven individual role who will be accountable for performing various actuarial services for our valuation team supporting their Life Insurance team. 

The incumbent will be a part of the IFRS Valuation team by driving valuation and reporting activities as well as performing earnings analysis for the life insurance products within U.S. Insurance.

This role will provide a great opportunity to apply core actuarial concepts, to understand complex US products and to work collaboratively with individuals within the team and other functions of the company. The incumbent will further be expected to coach junior actuarial analysts.


The successful candidate will have ownership of the following accountabilities:

·         Play a central role at quarter end by driving earnings and reserve movement analysis and contribute to the development of a robust SOE/RMA framework

·         Support the valuation reviews and controls of assumptions as part of the annual and off-cycle process

·         Work closely with the line actuaries in reviewing, enhancing, and streamlining valuation methodology and processes while also ensuring that valuation is being performed in compliance with applicable internal guidelines and actuarial standards

·         Contribute to the development of valuation methods and processes for IFRS 17 and the success of the Qlik SOE reporting framework

·         Conduct required capital analysis and support reporting under LICAT

·         Contribute to the development of valuation methods and processes for IFRS17 and the success of the Qlik SOE reporting framework

·         Participate to various valuation deliverables to Group Functions and other stakeholders (e.g. Appointed Actuary’s Report, Reserve sensitivities, QIS, etc.)

·         Coach junior students and develop strong relationships with various departments IFRS Valuation works with, such as Pricing, CALM, Modelling/Production, Life NAIC, US Segment, Affiliate Reinsurance, and Group Financial Actuarial


·         Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics

·         At least 6 years of actuarial work experience with Insurance companies and/or Financial services

·         Driven to attain designation in any recognized actuarial organization (SOA, ASP). Attainment of Associateship, either with SOA and/or ASP, is a plus

·         Past experience in actuarial modelling (preferably AXIS) and valuation in the life insurance industry would be an asset; understanding of regulations and familiarity in the manner of operations life insurance companies is a plus.

·         Ability to clearly communicate ideas, concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audiences whether written and oral

·         Demonstrated ability meet tough deadlines and clearly set own priorities  

·         Able to work in an evolving and dynamic environment and resilient to pressure;

·         Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills and has demonstrated team collaboration
